    Year of the Snake Celebration

    Children & Family | Recurring Event: February 7, 8 and 9

    Description

    In celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Nature Museum is hosting a special venomous snake exhibit! Snakes in attendance are the Timber Rattlesnake, Cottonmouth, Southern Copperhead, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Eyelash Vipers, Gaboon Viper and a Chinese Banded King Cobra. Our Year of the Snake partner, the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago will also give a brief presentation on the significance of the snake in Chinese culture. In addition to the exhibit, we will have:

    • A daily snake critter connection at 11 a.m.
    • “Rattlesnake crafts” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7 and Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.
    • At 11 a.m. Feb. 9, there will be a special Lion Dance by Master P.C. Leung.

    Venomous snakes provided by Rob Carmichael from the Lake Forest Wildlife Discovery Center.

Visit the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven, get up close with all our friendly creatures, create Valentine’s Day cards, decorate cookies, enter the raffle to win fabulous prizes and much more! Activities for all ages, swag bags for all kids! All proceeds benefit the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
    Cost: $40/adult member, $45/adult non-member,
    $15/child 4-18, $5/child 3 and under.

    Description

    Explore nature through Mathnasium’s First Steps “Math Foundations” program, designed to build Number Sense in students, ages 3-5 (Pre-K – 1st Grade). Each session introduces age appropriate lessons in one or more areas of mathematics: attributes, spatial relationships,
    classification, patterning, one-on-one correspondence, ordering, numeration, shapes, fractions, and measurement. Kids will explore nature, learn math concepts, and have fun!
    Cost: 7-week series: $180/member, $240/non-member.

    Description

    Presented in partnership with Multilingual Chicago
    Children learn Polish vocabulary during an experiential, interactive class through songs, movement and laughter! Children will read a thematic book together and then do fun hands-on crafts and sing songs relating to the day’s theme.
    Cost: 7-week series: $100/member caregiver and child/series; $140/non-member caregiver and
    child/series; $20/single class unless otherwise noted.
