February 9, SaturdayYear of the Snake Celebration
Description
In celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Nature Museum is hosting a special venomous snake exhibit! Snakes in attendance are the Timber Rattlesnake, Cottonmouth, Southern Copperhead, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Eyelash Vipers, Gaboon Viper and a Chinese Banded King Cobra. Our Year of the Snake partner, the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago will also give a brief presentation on the significance of the snake in Chinese culture. In addition to the exhibit, we will have:
- A daily snake critter connection at 11 a.m.
- “Rattlesnake crafts” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7 and Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.
- At 11 a.m. Feb. 9, there will be a special Lion Dance by Master P.C. Leung.
Venomous snakes provided by Rob Carmichael from the Lake Forest Wildlife Discovery Center.

Description
Get dressed up and join us for our first annual Family Valentine’s Day Dance! Experience exclusive after-hours access to the Museum, enjoy dinner and mocktails by Berghoff Catering and dance the night away to our DJ’s beats. Visit the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven, get up close with all our friendly creatures, create Valentine’s Day cards, decorate cookies, enter the raffle to win fabulous prizes and much more! Activities for all ages, swag bags for all kids! All proceeds benefit the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
Cost: $40/adult member, $45/adult non-member,
$15/child 4-18, $5/child 3 and under.

Move, play and explore nature in a safe, friendly museum environment specially adapted to support young children with developmental differences. Transition into a quiet, low stimuli breakfast room offering gluten and dairy free treats for everyone in the family. Continue your morning with a self-guided tour of the Museum’s exhibits using our newly created visual support map and activities guide. Finally, experience the wonder of the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven like never before with specialized song and floor time activities aimed at supporting a positive encounter with these incredible animals! Space is limited and registration is
required.
