Science on the Go!
Science on the Go! (SOG!) is the Museum’s flagship educational program.
For more than 20 years, it has transported science directly into the classroom and helped inspire generations of students and teachers to discover and contemplate the wonders of nature and science in a new way. To learn more about bringing SOG! to your school, click on this form, e-mail scienceonthego@naturemuseum.org or call (773) 755-5111, ext. 5.
SOG! is a professional development program that fascinates students and enhances K-8 educators’ comfort level teaching science through inquiry-based, hands-on lessons and cooperative learning that meets all Illinois curriculum standards. Teachers are eligible to receive seven CPDUs toward recertification and classrooms receive a 50 percent transportation reimbursement on field trips.
A hands-on, introductory curriculum workshop prepares teachers for using the program (includes dinner). All materials are packed and prepared for use throughout the quarter.
The curriculum features nine lessons, assessment tools, data-sheet masters, topic resources and extension activities. Museum educators will visit your classroom three times to teach right alongside you.
Download our 2012-2013 Science on the Go brochure to view our curriculum topics for this year.
Special thanks to The Lloyd A. Fry Foundation for making a special SOG! partnership possible among selected Chicago Public Schools. Additional support provided by Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust, ComEd, State Farm and Wrightwood Neighbors Association.
