adaptation: a physical trait that enables a species to survive
carnivore: a member of a food chain that only eats other animals
consumer: a member of a food chain that eats another member of the food
chain
DDT: a chemical pesticide widely used until it was banned in 1973
endangered: in danger of becoming extinct
extinction: the state of not existing anymore
food chain: all of the organisms in a consumer-producer sequence that enable
the highest consumer in the sequence to survive
habitat: the immediate environment of a species, including all of the plants
and animals necessary for its survival
hacking box: a cage used to introduce or reintroduce bald eagles and peregrine
falcons into the environment
herbivore: an animal that eats only plants
hypothesis: a reasoned guess about what will happen under specified conditions
imprint: to identify and bond with
omnivore: an animal that eats both plants and other animals
predator: an animal that hunts and eats other animals
prey: an animal that is hunted by another animal
producer: the lowest member of the food chain that is eaten by another member
proximity: nearness
raptor: bird of prey
species: a basic category of plant or animal in which individuals have common
characteristics that distinguish them from other categories of plants or
animals
talon: the claw of an eagle or any other bird of prey
