behavior: observable actions
culture: a way of living, thinking, feeling, and believing of a people as
determined by history and geography
endangered species: a species that is threatened with extinction
extinction: the state of no longer existing
fertile egg: an egg that will hatch
gene: a chemical unit that carries hereditary characteristics from parents
to child
habitat: the natural environment of an animal or plant
hypothesis: a reasoned guess
imprinting: identification of a young animal with the individuals that raise
it
incubate: provide conditions necessary for hatching an egg
instinctive: something that is inborn genetically determined
migration: the seasonal movement of animals from place to place
ornithologist: a scientist who studies birds
range: the territory covered by an animal
repopulate: increase the number of individuals in a group
ritual: a patterned, habitual sequence of actions
sanctuary: a safe place
species: a group of plants or animals that shares the same genetic characteristics
wetlands: damp or wet areas of land, e.g., swamps, bogs, marshes
